What we keep, and what never leaves your device.
Your account
Your account is an email address, and your name if you choose to give it. We use it to sign you in, and for nothing else.
What you listen to
To read something aloud, the text of what is being read is sent to our servers to generate the audio, and the audio is cached so that replaying it costs you nothing. We never receive the title of a document. We do not sell what you listen to, and we do not train anything on it.
In the browser reader
When you open a PDF in the browser reader, the file never leaves your device. It is opened and read locally; only the sentence being spoken is sent to us to make the audio.
In the iOS app
Files you import into the iOS app are stored on your device.
Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
What we keep to run the service
For each request we keep a record of how many characters were spoken, which voice was used, and when, so that usage and billing can be counted. Your usage page shows you exactly this about yourself.
No third-party tracking
We count visits with analytics we run on our own servers. It sets no cookies and builds no profile of you, which is why this site shows no cookie banner. Nothing goes to Google, to Meta, or to anyone else. We do advertise, but advertisers receive nothing about you: we only see which campaign a visit arrived from. Your data is not sold and is not shared with advertisers.
Deletion
You can delete your account from Account on the web (Delete account at the bottom of the page), or from your profile in the iOS app. This removes your account and its data. Writing to us also works: hello@brauo.com.
